Jo Beyer (*1991) is a German drummer, composer and producer working between contemporary jazz, experimental music and art-pop / electronica. His work has reached international audiences through his distinctive, highly communicative and energetic approach to drums, composition and collaboration.
He began playing piano as a child and later switched to drums, which he studied at Hochschule Osnabrück (Germany) and the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus (Denmark). Jo leads several projects including his own quartet, the trio MALSTROM and the electronic art-pop duo MIC IN THE FACE IS NOT ON PURPOSE, while also working as a sideman for various artists.
His approach combines improvisation and memorable melodies with an intense sense of interaction, exploring extreme dynamic ranges and unconventional sounds on the drums.
Jo's innovative artistic approach has been recognized by international jazz award juries, who supported his work by several awards. He has released over 15 albums, produces electronic music and movie soundtracks and regularly appears in radio and television productions.
Extensive international touring over the past decade has taken him to more than 20 countries across Europe, South and Central America, as well as Asia, performing at festivals, clubs and workshops.

Education
DRUMLESSONS
For more then 10 years Jo works as freelance drummer in the field of jazz and electronic pop music. He offers drum lessons in a relaxed and humorous atmosphere for ambitious people and people who prepare for studying music. The lessons take place in his cozy rehearsal room in Cologne Neustadt-Süd.
Stylistically very open-minded he is looking forward to meet interested people.
MUSIC MARKETING / BOOKING
As Jo works as bandleader he also has a lot of experience in booking and making a living as musician with his own music and bands. He likes to share this knowledge and give workshops, dealing with the following topics:
