In 1927, Metropolis was released and changed the history of cinema. Almost a century later, the film still feels remarkably relevant, revealing striking parallels to our contemporary world: the complex relationship between humans and machines, the rise of artificial intelligence, conflicts between societies, the influence of pop culture, and the dynamics of capitalism.

German drummer, composer, and producer Jo Beyer has taken on the challenge of creating a completely new score for the entire film, exploring the relationship between human creativity and AI-generated elements. With deep respect and reverence for the original composition, he has developed a contemporary soundtrack that combines AI-based processes with newly composed, arranged, and produced material of his own.
This interdisciplinary project will be presented as a live performance, with Jo Beyer performing drums alongside the entire film including the new score. It explores the possibilities, inspirations, and tensions between human expression and artificial intelligence, creating a unique and deeply personal dialogue between past and present, technology and humanity.

The live performance will have it's premiere at the Cinema Festival San Luis Potosí, Mexico, in October 2026
